Malta news: film industry thrives
More big names expected as film industry thrives
World renowned actors are expected to be gracing our nation in the coming months as the thriving film industry is set to continue expanding. Though no official confirmation has been made, Tom Cruise could be on his way to Malta where parts of the film ‘All you need is kill’ expected to be released next year, could be shot in Malta. A quick search on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) which is an online database related to films and television programs, with over 100 million users each month, yields some interesting results regarding those films featuring scenes shot in Malta. These include ‘Mary Mother of Christ’ and a host of television productions. In an interview with The Malta Independent, head of the Malta Film Commission Peter Busuttil confirms that world renowned actors are on the way, though he did not reveal any names. According to Mr Busuttil, the film industry is doing quite well as Malta is attracting a lot of interest from abroad, with the number of enquiries at the moment standing at around 60.(independent.com.mt) The cinema can also be a source of revenue for Malta.

Liberal party says it is in lead in Libya election
A liberal alliance led by a former Libyan rebel prime minister said Sunday the party's unofficial preliminary results put it in the lead in the country's landmark parliamentary elections, the first since the ouster of dictator Moammar Gadhafi. Faisal Krekshi, secretary general of the Alliance of National Forces led by Mahmoud Jibril, said the results were based on reports by party representatives at ballot counting centers across the vast desert nation. He provided no details, and the head of the election commission refused to confirm Krekshi's claims. "We are all waiting and we have nothing to suggest that one party is ahead of others," election commission chief Nouri al-Abar told reporters. He also refused to set a date for announcing the full official results. Libyans turned out en masse Saturday to cast their ballots for the 200-seat parliament. Eighty seats are set aside for party lists, while the remaining 120 are for individual independent candidates.(independent.com.mt) Libya is close to Malta, this is not always good nor evil.
