The blogs of war: Engadget vs. Gizmodo - Groups Seek Stop to Comcast Net Meddling - US Distance Runner Ryan Shay Dies During Olympic Marathon Trials - Deadly storm could bring heavy rain to parts of East Coast

The blogs of war: Engadget vs. Gizmodo (money.cnn.com)
In the consumer-technology blogosphere, the rivalry between Engadget and Gizmodo is as lively as a big-city tabloid war. Instead of a headless body in a topless bar, a scoop for these two sites would be running a photograph of a never-seen-before iPod.
When pressed, the two rock-'em-sock-'em journos will admit that competition has made both sites better. In public it's a different matter. "We're like two samurai in the movies," Lam says. "We might respect each other's skills, but in the end we have a job to do, and one of us is going to kill the other."

Groups Seek Stop to Comcast Net Meddling (abcnews.go.com)
A coalition of consumer groups and legal scholars on Thursday formally asked the Federal Communications Commission to stop Comcast Corp. from interfering with its subscribers' file sharing.
Two of the groups are also asking the FCC to fine Comcast $195,000 for every affected subscriber. The petitions will be the first real test of the FCC's stance on "Net Neutrality," the long-standing principle that Internet traffic be treated equally by carriers.

US Distance Runner Ryan Shay Dies During Olympic Marathon Trials
(voanews.com)
U.S. distance runner Ryan Shay has collapsed and died during Saturday's U.S. men's Olympic marathon trials in New York's Central Park. He was 28.
Shay, a native of Ypsilanti, Michigan, a Notre Dame graduate and the 2003 U.S. marathon champion, hit the ground near East 75th Street in Manhattan about nine kilometers into the 42.2 kilometer race.

Deadly storm could bring heavy rain to parts of East Coast (woi-tv.com)
U.S. rescue teams are headed to the Dominican Republic as it recovers from the wrath of Tropical Storm Noel.
The storm, now a hurricane, has killed at least 132 people, 82 of them in the Dominican Republic. Tens of thousands have been left homeless. In Haiti, new showers are expected to cause more deadly mudslides.
In addition to the rescue teams, two U.S. Coast Guard helicopters have already been deployed. The U.S. has contributed more than $1 million in aid.
