Oil spill keeps crabbers away in SF
Many crabbers stayed off the water Thursday at the start of the Dungeness crab season amid health concerns due to last week's oil spill in San Francisco Bay.
Crab catchers and buyers at the city's famed Fisherman's Wharf said the bad publicity surrounding the spill means many consumers won't want to eat crab from the region.

At debate, Clinton seeks rebound

After a difficult couple of weeks, Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton will attempt to regain her footing on Thursday night at a campaign debate with her rivals.
The increasingly combative Democratic candidates gather in Las Vegas for a two-hour, televised debate beginning at 8 p.m. EST (0100 GMT) with just seven weeks left before Iowa starts Americans down the path toward the November 4, 2008, presidential election.

Bishops issue guidelines for Catholic voters
They say church members who back candidates for their support of abortion or other 'assaults on human life' are guilty of cooperation in 'grave evil.' Catholic voters who back candidates because of their support for abortion or other "assaults on human life" would be "guilty of formal cooperation in grave evil," according to a statement adopted Wednesday by U.S. Catholic bishops.

talks to resume this weekend
Striking stagehands and Broadway producers are going back to the bargaining table, less than a week before the start of the lucrative Thanksgiving holiday weekend when most plays and musicals experience a box-office bonanza.
Negotiations will resume this weekend "at an undisclosed place and time," the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and the League of American Theatres said Wednesday.

Cowboy tours country to find good news
When rancher Bill Inman decided to show there's more to America than the gloom-and-doom on the nightly news, he hopped on his horse and started riding.
Some 1,700 miles later, he's burning through his family's life savings as he collects stories of hardworking, honest everyday people in rural America.
