When your home is the open road, where do you register to vote?
A total of 286 people who live full-time in their recreational vehicles were dropped from the voter rolls in one Tennessee county over the past two years because they did not have a genuine home address, only a mailbox. That has left them unable to vote in national or local elections.
What happened in Tennessee may be an extreme case, but an Associated Press review of laws and policies across the nation found that election officials sometimes make it difficult for the nation's thousands of devoted RVers to cast a ballot.

Massachusetts pushes biofuel standards
Deval Patrick and top lawmakers want to put Massachusetts on the clean energy map by requiring biofuel blends in home heating oil and providing tax incentives for producers of more efficient ethanol technology, known as cellulosic ethanol.
The state would be the first to require all diesel and home heating fuel sold in Massachusetts to contain a minimum amount of bio-based alternatives in their blends, as well as the first to provide incentives for cellulosic ethanol production, Patrick said.

Schwarzenegger orders wildfire review
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Tuesday ordered a review of California's response to the deadly wildfires that destroyed more than 2,000 homes last month, including whether home and business construction should be allowed in fire-prone areas.
He asked the state's Blue Ribbon Task Force on wildfires, made up of fire chiefs and state appointees, to identify weaknesses that could be fixed.

Indicted SoCal sheriff takes leave
Orange County Sheriff Michael Carona said Tuesday he will take a 60-day leave of absence while he fights federal corruption charges alleging he and others took nearly $700,000 in bribes and kickbacks.
Carona has pleaded not guilty to a count of conspiracy, four counts of mail fraud and two counts of witness tampering.
