European shares pared gains on Friday, stung by worse-than-expected U.S. non-farm payrolls numbers which casted a doubt over the pace of economic recovery in the country. He was at the heart of a con based on "one great big lie", convincing potential buyer Terence Collins that he was a "close friend and associate" of the reclusive billionaire Barclay brothers, owners of the prestigious Piccadilly hotel.(press association)
'Severed arm' brings motorway to a standstill
Thousands of motorists were caught up in the travel chaos for several hours on Thursday as officers closed the M62 in Merseyside, fearing the limb could be from a real person. ;The search was sparked after several members of the public reported they had seen the severed bloody forearm, Merseyside Police said. After an extensive hunt by officers and the Northwest Motorway Group, the joke shop limb was recovered. The drama ended shortly after 4.30pm after two council workers who had heard about the incident contacted police to tell them they had found a fake arm on the carriageway earlier in the day, and the road was reopened.(Itn)
Boy stabbed to death in school fight
A 15-year-old boy was stabbed to death in West Norwood, south London, the Metropolitan Police have said. The teenager suffered multiple injuries in the incident at Park Campus School in West Norwood, south London. Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly before 9am and took the boy to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A second boy was receiving hospital treatment after being stabbed in the arm during the fight. Three people have been arrested by murder squad detectives investigating the teenager's death. Park Campus is a specialist school educating some of London's most troubled young people, including those with social, behavioural and emotional difficulties. Launched two years ago, it was hailed as the first school of its kind in Britain, aimed at getting young people back into mainstream education.(ITN)
