Trade center steel makes its way home to Pa.
PHILADELPHIA – Massive steel remnants of the fallen World Trade Center towers returned Wednesday to the Pennsylvania city where they were made more than four decades ago, in a solemn homecoming that was never meant to be.
A mile-long procession of 28 flatbed trucks arrived in Coatesville carrying 500 tons of structural supports, referred to as "steel trees" because of their upward branching shape. Forged in 1969 by Lukens Steel Co., the supports framed the perimeter of the twin towers' first nine floors and massive lobbies before the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks reduced both skyscrapers to rubble.

ALLISON, Iowa – A judge sentenced a former high school football player to life in prison Wednesday, telling him he had chosen to commit an evil act in killing his former coach, Ed Thomas.
Mark D. Becker, 24, will spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole for gunning down Thomas at the Aplington-Parkersburg High School weight room on June 24, 2009 in front of about 20 students.
A jury convicted Becker of first-degree murder in March, rejecting an insanity plea. The conviction carried a mandatory life sentence.

Pat McFadden defended Mr Brown's remarks on Randall and Boulton Unleashed. He said Mr Brown had been one of the only people advocating tougher controls on the banks and the financial crash was caused by "irresponsible financial institutions".
"The City and the banks themselves were arguing for far less regulation but so too were the Conservatives, so if you're going to base your decision of stewardship for the future on what people were saying, then you certainly woulnd't be holding Gordon up as the great villain of the piece," he said.
"Guerrilla gardeners" sprucing up London by night
They defy the power of the state with raids under cover of darkness using grenades, slingshots and surreptitious sprinkling in an all out war to beautify the capital's neglected public spaces. London's "guerrilla gardeners," armed with spades and trowels, are behind a number of the floral displays on the city's roundabouts (traffic circles) and roadside spaces.
They often operate in the dark of night because they are gardening in public spaces without permission from governmental authorities who don't often take kindly to their interference.
"I will do it at night or when it's pouring with rain," said Richard Reynolds, founder of website www.guerrillagardening.org and author of "On Guerrilla Gardening."
