The women were each freed after paying 10,000 rand and surrendering their passports, according to South African Police Service spokesman Colonel Vishnu Naidoo. They are due to appear back at Johannesburg Magistrates' Court on June 22. The women face charges under the Merchandise Marks Act and the Special Measures Regulations, and are accused of the "unauthorised use of a trade mark at a protected event" and "entry into a designated area while in possession of a prohibited commercial object".(presse association)

Marine Steven Birdsall, 20, of 40 Commando Royal Marines, was shot by insurgents in Sangin in Helmand Province on Sunday. He was flown back to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham but died from his wounds on Monday afternoon. Mne Birdsall, who lived in Warrington, Cheshire, with his mother, father and younger sister Melissa, was described by his commanding officer as "the perfect marine".(presse association)
'Happy Slapping' Gang Pair Admit Killing OAP
Ekram Haque, 67, was walking home from a mosque in Tooting, south west London, last August when he was attacked by the gang which called themselves Lane Gang Productions. Mr Haque died from a head injury a week later. His granddaughter was unhurt in the incident. The youths, aged 15 and 16, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at the Old Bailey where they pleaded guilty to manslaughter.(skynews)

President Barack Obama met on his own turf with top BP officials on Wednesday to press his demands that the London-based oil giant pay into a claims fund for victims of the worst oil spill in the nation's history. BP Chairman Carl-Henric Svanberg, CEO Tony Hayward, and other officials walked slowly as a group from the Southwest Gate of the White House, where they were dropped off, and climbed the steps leading to the West Wing.(AP)
