Terrorist sleeper cell 'within Met' - Emergency storm meeting - Paisley: New generation should lead - Clegg issues political challenge - Abuse Police Focus On Second Chamber.

Terrorist sleeper cell 'within Met'
Scotland Yard has refused to discuss allegations that a sleeper cell of al Qaida spies is being kept under secret service surveillance after infiltrating the Metropolitan Police. According to the News of the World, in the past few weeks MI5 agents have identified four officers suspected of passing secrets from the force. All four are allegedly Asians living in London and are feared to have links with Islamic extremists in Britain and worldwide terrorist organisations.

Emergency storm meeting
Government officials are due to hold an emergency meeting as storms threaten Britain. The Whitehall talks are expected to take place on Sunday night as the country braces itself for the worst weather of the winter. People have been warned to stay inside as winds of up to 80mph, rain and hailstones are set to batter the country in two waves.

Paisley: New generation should lead
Northern Ireland's First Minister Rev Ian Paisley has set out the reasons behind his decision to stand down, saying it was time for a "new generation" to shape the country's future. The 81-year-old, who will retire as First Minister in May, dismissed suggestions he had been forced out by an internal Democratic Unionist Party coup. And in a provocative statement, he said Sinn Fein were no longer "true republicans" because they had accepted Britain's right to govern in Northern Ireland.

Clegg issues political challenge
Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has challenged the major parties to offer "a new type of government" as the price of his party's involvement in any power-sharing deal. He used his first conference speech at the head of the party to rule out any coalition in the event of a hung Parliament without a promise of major constitutional shake-up.
Mr Clegg also signalled a shift towards a tax-cutting agenda, pledging to find ways to channel any spare public money into reducing individuals' bills rather than boosting public services.

Abuse Police Focus On Second Chamber
Police investigating claims of child abuse at a former Jersey care home are hoping to break into a second underground chamber this week. Officers have finished searching the first cellar at Haut de la Garenne where they reportedly found shackles, a trap door and a message written on the wall saying: "I've been bad for years and years." Sniffer dogs also detected two spots of suspected human blood in a bath.
