Clinton's Wins Halt Move of Superdelegates to Obama
Hillary Clinton scored more than just three presidential primary victories this week. She also helped freeze a movement of top Democrats set to call on her to concede to rival Barack Obama. A group of uncommitted ``superdelegates'' were ready to make a show of support for Obama by trying to pressure Clinton to give up, said Tim Roemer, a former congressman who's rounding up backers for Obama. Now, after her wins in Texas, Ohio and Rhode Island, many will still back Obama without calling on Clinton to quit, he said.

McCain now has challenge of staying in public eye
Now that he has clinched the Republican presidential nomination, John McCain has to figure out how to remain in the public eye while attention is diverted to the tense Democratic battle. The danger is that the epic struggle between Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton over their party's presidential nomination will dominate the news and turn McCain into a side issue.

Homeowner equity is lowest since 1945
Americans' percentage of equity in their homes fell below 50 percent for the first time on record since 1945, the Federal Reserve said Thursday. Homeowners' portion of equity slipped to downwardly revised 49.6 percent in the second quarter of 2007, the central bank reported in its quarterly U.S. Flow of Funds Accounts, and declined further to 47.9 percent in the fourth quarter — the third straight quarter it was under 50 percent. That marks the first time homeowners' debt on their houses exceeds their equity since the Fed started tracking the data in 1945.

Activists seek more immigration debate
When officials in this suburban Chicago community began proposing hardline anti-illegal immigration policies last year, pro-immigrant rights activists rallied. Council meetings overflowed with thousands, mostly people who wanted to protest the proposed measures. Neighborhoods were canvassed with fliers. Coalitions formed to fight the policies.
But months and many primaries later, pro-immigrant activists fear the attention paid to immigration reform has faded in Illinois and other non-border states, even in communities like Carpentersville — where more than 40 percent of 37,000 residents are Hispanic.

Vegas hepatitis exposure list incomplete
Health officials used an incomplete patient list to notify people exposed to hepatitis and HIV at a Las Vegas clinic, an epidemiologist testified Thursday. "We know of patients who had been there whose names were not on the list," Southern Nevada Health District epidemiologist Brian Labus told a state legislative committee on health care. The public hearing was the first investigating the spread of hepatitis C from unsafe practices at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada. An outbreak of six cases of acute hepatitis C was made public last week. The surgical center and five other affiliated clinics have been closed.
