Man held over Parliament protest
A man has been arrested in connection with Wednesday's rooftop protest by climate change activists at the Houses of Parliament, police said. The man, 26, was arrested at his home in Westminster on suspicion of aiding and abetting a criminal offence of trespass. The man, who is a Parliamentary pass holder and has worked for members of both houses, has been taken to a central London police station for questioning.
Gas terminal blaze put out
Fire crews have put out a major blaze following an explosion at one of the UK's largest gas terminals. Crews were called to a "very large-scale incident" at the Bacton gas terminal in Norfolk shortly before 6pm on Thursday.
The fire broke out in a wastewater treatment plant within the Shell UK site, which brings natural gas ashore from the North Sea. Shell UK confirmed that the fire was out and said the plant had been shut down safely.
Incident commander Richard Herrell, of Norfolk Fire Service, said: "There are inherent hazards in the petroleum industry. We've accounted for them and brought the fire under control in a very quick time. Everyone is safe and well. It has run like clockwork. We have a well- rehearsed plan between the emergency services and this has been shown to work."

Family Devastated By School Bus Crash
A family has been left devastated after two teenage twins and their two cousins were involved in a lethal school bus crash in Northern Ireland. Nicola Murray died sitting next to her 16-year-old twin sister Natasha at the back of the bus. Their nine-year-old cousin Grainne Mallon suffered severe head injuries. Grainne is in a critical condition after undergoing emergency brain surgery at Belfast's Royal Victoria Hospital to remove a blood clot.
Britain ready to host Kenya donor conference
Britain is prepared to host a donors' conference to raise funds to help Kenya's economy and tourism sector after a power-sharing agreement ended a political crisis, Prime Minister Gordon Brown said on Thursday. He told reporters he had just spoken to former U.N. chief Kofi Annan who brokered the deal and told him: "We'd be prepared in London to host a donors' conference to make sure Kenya has the best chance to build upon this power-sharing agreement, to restore tourism and get the economy moving again."
