Brown pays surprise visit to Iraq
Prime Minister Gordon Brown paid an unannounced visit on Sunday to the troops whose mission he is winding down in Shi'ite southern Iraq.
South of Baghdad, a roadside bomb killed the police chief of Babel province, showing Shi'ite areas remain violent despite an overall reduction in bloodshed across Iraq.
Brown visited the last major outpost of British troops at an air base outside the city of Basra and said Britain would hand over responsibility within weeks for security in Basra province, the last of four it once patrolled in southern Iraq.

Ministers plan wind power 'revolution'
The government is to announce plans to build enough off-shore wind farms to power every home in Britain.
Business secretary John Hutton is expected to announce the major expansion in renewable energy during a speech in Berlin on Monday.
Up to 7,000 turbines could be installed around the UK's coastline - more than two per mile - with the aim of producing 34 gigawatts of electricity by 2020.

Devolution review unites Scots opposition
Scotland's opposition parties have joined forces to create a new commission on extending devolution that will rival the SNP's "national conversation" aimed at gaining support for independence.
Scottish Labour leader Wendy Alexander's proposal in the Scottish Parliament to look at the settlement was passed with backing from the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats.

Club issues warning to British pensioner for farting: reports
A British pensioner has been ordered out of his local social club for breaking wind too loudly, which "disgusted" fellow members, media reports said Wednesday.
Maurice Fox, 77, received a letter from Kirkham Street Sports and Social Club in Paignton, south-west England, about his overly-audible flatulence, asking him to go outside when necessary.

BMI to add daily flight to Israel
British Midland (BMI), the second-largest carrier, said on Sunday it would start operating daily flights between London Heathrow and Tel Aviv from March 2008.
El Al Israel Airlines, the country's national carrier, and British Airways already have numerous non-stop flights a day to and from London.
In a bid to increase tourism, Israel earlier in the year announced an open-skies policy, and the Tourism Ministry has lobbied European budget carriers in an effort to lower prices.
