Diana's lover feared life with her "would be hell" - Fire at Royal Mint - Mum: 'Let Shannon go' - Brown threatens to shut down rogue off-licenses.

Diana's lover feared life with her "would be hell"
Princess Diana's heart surgeon lover, Hasnat Khan, told the inquest into her death on Monday he feared that marriage to one of the world's most famous women "would be hell because of who she was."
"I knew I would not be able to lead a normal life," Khan said in a highly personal statement to the inquest into the deaths of Diana and Dodi al-Fayed in a high-speed Paris car crash in August 1997.

Fire at Royal Mint
The Ministry of Defence has launched an investigation into a large blaze that broke out at the Royal Mint in South Wales. Staff were evacuated from the Llantrisant site and South Wales police told people in neighbouring villages to keep their windows and doors closed and stay inside.
There were fears chemicals used at the mint could irritate the eyes, nose and throat if they were carried in the smoke. Environmental health officers later gave residents the all-clear after the fire was put out.

Mum: 'Let Shannon go'
The mother of missing schoolgirl Shannon Matthews has urged: "Whoever's got Shannon, just please let her go." In an emotional press conference, Karen Matthews made a direct appeal to "somebody out there" who may be holding the nine-year-old captive. Shannon failed to come home after leaving a school trip in her home town of Dewsbury Moor, West Yorkshire, on February 19.

Brown threatens to shut down rogue off-licenses
Gordon Brown has promised to crackdown on alcohol sales to teenagers, while the government is told that the availability of alcohol full stop is the real problem. The prime minister has vowed to shut down any shop caught selling alcohol to under-18s more than once. The warning comes as council leaders argue the government's 24-hour drinking experiment has been a "catastrophic mistake".
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Mr Brown said: "One thing that worries me most is the number of shops and off-licences selling to people under 18. "We have to tighten up the penalties. Any shop that is selling to under-18s twice in three months should lose its licence. At the moment it is three sales in three months but we have to go further."
