Unions warn budget cuts will hit the poor
Deep cuts forecast by the government to tackle Britain's burgeoning public deficit would put hundreds of thousands of public and private sector workers out of work, derail economic recovery, and hit the poorest hardest, the TUC said.The criticism comes after Osborne warned on Sunday that all sectors of society would be affected by what he called "an unavoidable budget".(AFP)

Pavlos Joseph, 32, from Crystal Palace, southeast London, has been banned from attending future World Cup matches following the incident at Green Point Stadium on Friday night. When he appeared in court on charges of trespass he was told his case would be dealt with this Friday. At the weekend he told the Sunday Mirror he was looking for a toilet when a security guard sent him in the direction of the players' tunnel.(skynews)

IT specialist Clinton Bailey, 36, is alleged to have killed her before draining her bank account and looking for a chance to get rid of her body. Bailey, a South African living in Malpas Road, Lewisham, south London, had financial problems, a jury was told. He denies murder at the Old Bailey. Peter Wright QC, prosecuting, said: "Leah Questin was searching for affection, a relationship, and possibly marriage - some form of permanent relationship.(press association)
