Redknapp questioned in corruption probe
Harry Redknapp has been released from custody, after being questioned by police investigating corruption in football. The Portsmouth manager and chief executive Peter Storrie were among five men arrested on Wednesday in a series of raids across the country. Redknapp said he believed his release from Chichester police station was "the end of it".

Defence spending 'needs billions more'
Former armed forces chief General Lord Guthrie has warned Gordon Brown that he will be punished at the polls if British troops suffer as a result of spending shortages.
Lord Guthrie was speaking at the launch of a pamphlet by Tory MP Bernard Jenkin, arguing that defence spending needed to increase by £3 billion a year for the next five years just to maintain current force levels.

EU progresses on trade pact with Iraq
The European Union and Iraq reported significant progress towards a trade and cooperation pact after talks on Wednesday and a minister said Iraq's business climate would improve markedly next year.
Mohammed Hamud Bidan, Iraq's deputy foreign minister, told a news conference 90 percent of the negotiations had been concluded and improvements in the security situation in Iraq were creating better prospects for business.

Long hours employment law 'not being enforced'
Government attempts to curb excessive working hours are not being enforced, with too many employers flouting the law, the TUC has claimed.
The TUC claims a hardcore of bad employers are ignoring working time laws, believing this is the one area of employment law they can break without fearing the consequences.

Labour funding chief knew of secret donor
Gordon Brown was today left defending another colleague over the proxy donor scandal.
Mr Brown insisted his chief fundraiser Jon Mendelsohn's position had not become untenable, despite the revelation he had been aware the millionaire David Abraham's was funnelling money into the Labour party through intermediaries.
